Nurse Residency Program | Prisma Health Careers (2024)

A solid foundation for new graduate nurses

Prisma Health is committed to providing new graduate nurses with a solid foundation to launch their nursing career. The Nurse Residency Program combines quality classes, core curriculum, simulation, one-on-one skills validation, hands-on application with preceptors and professional development.

Prisma Health welcomes new graduate registered nurses, and our goal is to make a successful, smooth transition period for you as you grow from functioning as a student nurse into a practicing registered nurse. Our programs will provide you with support and education from expert educators in the field to help you increase your knowledge, confidence and critical-thinking skills. Apart from the clinical knowledge you will gain, you will also have the opportunity to network with other new graduates and experience the spectrum of nursing offered at Prisma Health.

Program Orientation

The Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program supports education for new graduate nurses encompassing dedicated training throughout the first year of practice. The program is implemented in three phases

Phase 1

Clinical orientation, EMR training, foundational nursing, and onboarding to your role as a new graduate nurse.

Phase 2

Introduction to the unit and onboarding with the unit leader, along with 2-3 unit-based orientation shifts each week with dedicated preceptors throughout their expected orientation period.

Completion of service line curriculum courses, simulation, skills validation, and other required training, along with unit-based orientation shifts with dedicated preceptors to capitalize on education and training specific to the service line.

Phase 3

Transition to full unit orientation to solidify your nursing practice in the care setting with skills validation for a transition to independent practice.Completion of professional development curriculum during months 6-12 of the first year of practice.

Upon completing orientation, the nurse resident takes a professional development curriculum with courses designed to promote clinical excellence, content on legal nursing documentation, ethics, emotional intelligence, emergency response, and skills refresher sessions. These courses are designed to improve clinical touchpoints with the Nurse Residency Manager and clinical educator teams for continued mentoring and support during the second half of their first year of practice.
